Hi,

I found you blog while browsing the web for Hackintosh Desktops. I have a 2006 Mac Pro (version 1,1) and I have been having issues with Starcraft 2. I have been very dissapointed with Apple's support of this model and their current video card offerings. This Mac Pro has served me well, but it's starting to show it's age. I considered getting a new Mac Pro, but after having successfully installed a retail copy of SL on an ASUS 1005HA (my own HackBook Mini), I am strongly considering building myself a Hack Pro. Your blog has given me a lot more motivation to do this. I am patiently waiting for your guide! Any updates?

Thanks,
Ed

Hey Tom
Thanks for following up about the project; I mean to post an update fairly soon.
The hackintosh has performed very well overall. Everything moves very fast and you get everything you come to expect out of a mac. I would honestly say it performs as well, if not better, than my 2008 Mac Pro.
However I do 2 bugs to complain about; one is more major than the other. First, the wifi card I bought does not work with the system, it only works in Win7. Second, and more major, the system will not shut down properly. I call this the 'restart bug.' When I click "shut down" on mac gui, the system will shut down and then turn back on about 5 seconds later. It acts like it is completely powered off for about 5 secs and then comes back on! I think this has something to do with the dsdt and am working with my friend on fixing this bug.
Overall I am satisfied with the rig. Other than the restart bug I have pretty much built a vanilla mac.
I am excited to hear you are cooking up this recipe and will try to get a guide out there for this project before too long. The kexts for the Pro-E board will definitely be beneficial for you when building this and I will include them in my guide.
Cheers,
Clark

After a month or two, how has it performed? Any complaints? Did you get dual monitors hooked up? I'm about to cook up your recipe ;), if you were to re do it is there anything you'd do differently?

These two blog posts have been a ton of help, much appreciated!

Thanks,
Tom

I haven't actually got my rig set up yet. There are still pieces in the mail. I consulted with a pretty knowledgeable guy before taking on this project so I'm pretty confident the Pro-E will work great. This guy uses just about the same config as me: http://j.mp/af54oF. I plan on using retail snow leo 10.6.3 with chameleon bootloader. Stay tuned and I will definitely let people know how things are going. I expect some components in the mail tmrw so there will definitely be an update to this blog.

So which install of Snow Leopard did you end up using to get the system to boot? Retail DVD plus a bootloader?

Currently using a Q8200 and have 10.6.3 running perfectly using chameleon and a retail dvd of SL. Not sure if I want to risk this setup to try an i7 hackintosh build unless I can find someone with the Pro-E working.
